Our specialist orthodontist, Dr. Chong Ler, attained her Masters Degree in Orthodontics with distinction from the Cardiff University, United Kingdom and become a certified specialist in Orthodontics, registered as a member with the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. Orthodontics interests Dr. Chong as it transcends the field of cosmetics. She defines orthodontics to be more like ‘Teeth Engineering’, where she acts as the designer to reposition each and every individual tooth to their optimum location based on the detailed assessments that she performs on her patients. She commits herself into providing the most advanced and comprehensive orthodontic treatments for patients of all ages by offering a wide range of contemporary orthodontic braces to suit her patients’ requirements.

What is orthodontic? Orthodontic is a branch of dentistry which straighten the misaligned teeth, correct bite issues/ malocclusion and address other problems that might be affecting the form and function of the teeth. This improves appearance, position and function of the abnormal position teeth.
What are the causes of malocclusion?
  • Inherited from parents
  • Acquired from traumatic injuries, early loss of milk teeth, habits such as thumb sucking etc.
What are the types of braces provided?
  • Conventional system
  • Semi- ligate system ( LOTUS )
  • Self- ligate system ( DAMON )
  • Clear aligners (Invisalign , Clear Path)
How long will it take to complete the treatment? Usually it takes about 1- 2.5 years. It varies among individuals. Failed to attend monthly appointment may lead to a longer duration of treatment.
Is the treatment painful? Usually teeth may be tender for the first few days of treatment. Tenderness is because your teeth is activated and moved by the brackets and wires. You will get used to it after 3 months or lesser. Mild painkiller and mouth ulcer gel can be used to relieve the pain.
What precautions do I need to take during the treatment? Avoid hard or sticky food such as apples, chicken bones, nuts, chewing gums etc. These might breaks the wire and brackets. Take a good care of your oral hygiene is mandatory during the treatment. Use orthodontic toothbrush and floss every day.
